Very Big Maps

A Series of Very Large, Scrollable, "Virtual Reality" Maps by Phil Konstantin

With the advent of large, megapixel scannerss, people can now produce very large maps with amazing detail. Using a standard internet browser, it is hard to appreciate the details of these maps. I have modified these pictures so that you can truly appreciate their beauty and details. Click on any of the links below to go to the page with that virtual map. Each of these is quite large. So, it might take a while to load. The quality of some maps are better than others.

Once you get to a map, you can use your mouse, or the button controls pictured below, to zoom in or out, move up down or from side to side within the map. Clicking on the circlular button makes it move around the map on its own. The box with 4 arrows expands the map to full screen.


It is highly recommended that you maximize your browser window to get the full effect.

Click on a link below to go to that country's or area's maps. The titles are usually as their creators made them, minus any non-English characters (for computer purposes). All of the original scans from which these are made have been placed in the public domain, or have been released for use by the public. Most of the original maps were processed by a governmental agency. Or, they are so old that they are now in the public domain because their original copyright has expired.
